HEY!!! It's Just ME!!
Hi, I'm Milton (Mac) McKinney, I 'm a Sergeant at the Harris County Sheriff's Department in Houston, Texas. Formerly an officer with the McKinney Police Department, McKinney, Texas.
Update! Retired from the Army Reserve on July 1st, 2002. Formerly a Captain in the U. S. Army Reserves, 1st Brigade, 75th Division (TS), Houston, Texas. I was assigned with the S-3 shop of 1st Brigade, Training Officer. I also served on the Brigade Exercise Quality Control Team.
I started my military career as a private in the Tennessee Army National Guard, enlisting in January of my senior year of high school. I went through Boot Camp and Advanced Individual Training (Armor Crewman) during the summer of 1975. The following January I got bored with hanging around the Armory and not doing much so I changed things up a bit.
I next served in the U. S. Navy for four years active duty as an Electronics Technician, with additional duties as a Security Police officer at the Roosevelt Roads Naval Station, Puerto Rico. I enlisted in January of 1976 as an E-3, attended Navy Boot Camp in Orlando Florida, and my "A" School in Great Lakes, Ill. I got out of the Navy in January of 1980 as a Petty Officer 2nd Class (E-5).
I then spent a two year hitch in the Texas Air Force National Guard in a Security Police Unit, spending one period of Annual Training at Travis Air Force Base in California, and one Annual Training at Gulfport, Mississippi, so you can see why I would move on to something else.
I then served for twelve years in the Texas Army National
Guard both as a Enlisted man, starting as an E-5, and moving up to the officer
ranks. I attended Officer Candidate School in 1987/88, receiving my commission
from the Texas Army National Guard Academy, Austin, Texas, in June, 1988. I was
commissioned in the Armor Branch, and I have served in Armor, Military
Intelligence, and Quartermaster Branch positions.. .
I started my police career in 1980 after returning to Texas from my active duty hitch in the Navy. I attended the North Texas Council of Governments Police Academy, graduating 2nd in my class in December of 1980. At that time we only had to attend 240 hours of training in the academy to receive our commission as peace officers in Texas. (Currently I think it is up to 640 hours).
I spent 10 years at the McKinney Police Department in the Patrol Division. I was trained as a Patrol Officer, Traffic Officer, Accident Investigation Officer, SWAT Team Officer, Hazardous Devices Technician (Bomb Technician), Field Training Officer, Intoxilyzer Operator, and an extensive list of additional training classes in numerous aspects of police work. I earned my TCLEOSE Intermediate Certificate, Advanced Certificate, and Police Instructor Certificate while I worked at McKinney P. D. as well as attending Grayson County Community College and Collin County Community College. I worked on the evening and late night shifts and made DUI's my pet project.
In 1990 I decided to move to a larger department ( and my dad had gotten hired at the Harris County Sheriff's Department, I visited, and liked what I saw) so I applied at the HCSD. I was hired in March of 1991 and I have been there ever since. I served for a year as a training officer on a jail floor where new hire jailers are trained, then I spent five years in the Detention Training Section teaching numerous classes. During my time in the Training Section I earned my Master Peace Officer Certificate from TCLEOSE. I also became one of the Departments first few ASP Baton instructors, and Pepper Spray Instructor. I then took the promotional exam and was promoted to Sergeant in February of 1997. I was assigned as the supervisor of the Inmate Trust Fund in the Support Services Division.
Hobbies and Interests: Raising my latest (and last) two children, Brittney (11)
and Jeffrey (8), we take lots of interesting road trips together (see the kids
page for pictures of our trips)..... Geocaching, Scuba diving, building my web
pages, reading anything I can get my hands on, driving and hiking on Texas
Beaches (and any other beaches I can get to), and flying my kite. On my road
trips I collect the little shot glasses that you can get at souvenir shops
wherever tourists are found (got about forty or fifty of those dang things so
far, and no where to display them... and no, I don't use them for their intended
purpose.. LOL), and I'm a single parent that would rather be with his kids than
breath.
Now, I guess I could put up some info on my personal life and everything that I've been through, other than just recently, but that would take up more space than I have for all my other pages put together.... so you'll just have to ask specific questions and I'll try to answer them the best I can..... LOL.
