That Bittersweet Reunion By Milton E. McKinney © aka Breaktrack.
Hello there old friend, it’s good to see you again, It has been one hell of a while. But here we are, just holding a flag, Though the occasion doesn’t warrant a smile.
We hardly ever get to see one another, Except at these gatherings like this. And even though you’re one hell of a guy, These are times I could sure stand to miss.
These bittersweet reunions we have, Are hard on us every one. But we keep gettin' together, and will for a while, Or at least till the dieing is done.
For we all come together when our heroes fall, When the warriors have given their life. We all gather and stand, tall and silent in line, To honor the end to their strife.
It’s guilty I feel when I’m glad you are here, No pleasure from this should I feel. But it is good to see you my old trusted friend, Without you this wouldn’t be real.
So we stand side by side and we honor them all, Then we go home and live day by day. Till we’re called up again for another grim loss Not too many more times we do pray.
So if my smile seems just a little bit sad When I pull up and hop off my ride. I am glad to see you, no matter the cost, And proud to stand here by your side.
But one day I hope, that it comes to pass That we meet just for our friendships sake. No more funerals to attend, no more Taps to be played. No more tears than we think we can take.
On that day my friend, we will celebrate all. We will sing and we’ll dance all day long, But till then my friend, I’m afraid that we’ll need, To continue to try and be strong.
For the bittersweet reunions we have now and then. Will keep us all going for now. So goodbye now old friend, I will see you again, Whenever the fates will allow.
