Why Aren’t You Going My Way

By Milton E. McKinney ©

aka Breaktrack

While riding along toward my goal I noticed I wasn’t alone.

I waited for a glimpse of the rider as I heard his loud pipes drone.

Another rider was coming near from the opposite direction from me.

And I wondered what his destination was, where was he going to be.

My fellow Patriot Guard Riders and I were headed for a hero’s wake.

We ride all day, and all night as well, if that is what it would take.

A fallen warrior is coming home who’d fought and met their fate.

We honor the sacrifice of our friend, and we do not want to be late.

So to see the other riders heading off some other direction,

Was puzzling to us and we didn’t understand the lack of some connection

Where were they going? What were they doing? Where is it they need to be?

What in the world could be more important completely baffled me.

Why aren’t you going my way, is the question I have for them.

Why aren’t you going my way, I truly hate to condemn,

Why aren’t you here with us right now to honor those that fell?

I know you have your reasons but I have no way to tell.

Are you too busy now to be bothered, too many things going on?

You are too busy to commiserate with the families of those that are gone.

Is it just inconvenient or gets in the way, of all your activities?

Life is just too fast and too loose, too many proclivities?

Why aren’t you going my way? Why can’t you see the light?

Why can’t you make the time for those who have fallen in this fight?

Too many brothers and sisters out there are sacrificing their lives.

Please make time to honor them, and to comfort their husbands and wives.

Come see their children standing so still who now will grow up alone.

Come stand a post with the Patriot Guard and for your absence atone.

Come shed a tear with us who share the bond of those who care.

Come be a part of the gathering host whose dedication you share.

Never forget those who fight for our freedom, never leave them behind.

Remember the fallen and families, too, with whom our fates are entwined.

Find it in your heart to listen to me and follow me where I go.

Come with us and be a part of the honor and respect that we show.

So now you’re going my way, and now the honored can rest.

The Patriot Guard is standing by and with this task we are blessed.

To hold a flag, or to hold a hand, or to pray for a heavy heart.

It’s not the end of the sad, sad days, but it is a pretty good start.

So keep on going my way, keep us in the fight.

Pass the torch to generations who haven’t yet seen the light.

Just keep on going my way, from dawn till dusk each day,

Yes join us won’t you to honor them and keep on going our way.
