One Of Our Soldiers Died Today

By Milton E. McKinney ©

aka  Breaktrack.

One of our soldiers died today

But very few know his name

No one forced him toward that death

But he answered up all the same.

He was not a famous movie star

Or a pitchman loud and brash

He did not sing or dance real well

Or squander others’ cash

No, the soldier simply died today

He died for you and me.

He died among his comrades there

So far across the sea.

No politician on the take

No cheating hurtful spouse

No Wall Street shark or lobbyist

No lying Speaker of the House

So you didn’t see him in the news

No pop stars scantily clad

No movie stars or celebrities

To mourn this loss so sad.

So one of our soldiers died today

And you don’t even know his name.

You don’t know what he looked like

Nor from whence he came.

But for those few that knew him well

The loss is much to bear.

And worst of all it seems to be

The country doesn’t care.

Celebrity is only on T V,

And not on the battlefield.

Where heroes go to do their job

And freedom does not yield.
